Steelhead
Steelhead numbers were lower than expected, as September 99 has the lowest steelhead creel in over a decade. Extremely warm water conditions forced us to fish over 100' down in water we normally only fish 30' down. That made for hundreds of lost fish cause we couldn't hook them!

Forage Base
Western basin forage base increased, Alewife larger sized than in the past several years
Stomach contents sampling of Chinook and steelhead during 99 support the larger alewife size with the average alewife 120 millimeters compared to the 85 millimeters size in 96 western basin
Forage Base Niagara River to Olcott appears to be stable. Forage base rivals amounts from early eighties
Pelagic zone forage base has decreased in the western basin based on sonar readings and records
Pelagic zone forage base Eastern basin non-existent Stomach content sampling Eastern basin supports 3 Spined stickleback predominate forge including insects Alewife non existent in stomach sampling
